Tasting Notes:

Cedary oak plays a strong role, with a dill and lavender scent. Yet underneath, the ripe Cabernet flavors fill in the gaps nicely. Tannic and structured, but supple midpalate before the tannins sweep in. Best from 2005 through 2015. 1,800 cases made.

Tasting Notes:

The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa may be the lightest example I have tasted since Randy Dunn began making his blockbuster Cabs in 1979. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color, medium body, moderate levels of cassis fruit, and a tight, hard, narrow finish that will never flesh out. Although it will hold up for 10-12 years, there is clearly a lack of intensity/substance to this otherwise cleanly made lightweight. An interesting point of trivia is that Randy Dunn’s production of approximately 4,000 cases of Napa and Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon per year has not changed since the winery’s inception ... somewhat refreshing in view of the American cultural tendency to think that “bigger is better.”

Loralee worked side by side with Randy during the early years, as well as handled the office. Her office duties might have ended with her full time duties as a mother to two young girls and a teenage boy, but Lori continued to work events. By no means did her responsibilities lessen over the years as she cared for the family, home and property.
