Tasting Notes:

A great vintage for Mount Mary and the flagship is on form, marrying power and elegance with impressive cellar-worthy structure and depth. The nose delivers an array of blueberries, cassis and redder berry fruits wrapped in gently leafy nuances and some fresh earthy and spicy notes. There's plenty in the mix. The palate's refined and resolved with tannins flying in formation and casting a trail of fresh red cherries, red plums, cassis and blueberry fruit in a breathtakingly fresh, exhilarating style. Hints of licorice to close. This is phenomenal. A single-vineyard wine and the blend is vineyard-derived and shifts with the season. This 2014 is 44% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 16% cabernet franc, 6% malbec and 4% petit verdot. Best from 2024.

Tasting Notes:

Just because the Mount Mary wines are famed for their purity, elegance and balance doesn't mean that they eschew power and layered complexity. Quintet (the five Bordeaux varieties) is the king of the portfolio. The rainbow of fresh, vibrant cassis, redcurrant, dried herb and bramble flavours are absolutely exemplary.

description Producer information Professional reviews

Mount Mary is a family owned, single vineyard estate located in the heart of the Yarra Valley. The region is in the south-eastern corner of Australia, east of Melbourne in the state of Victoria. Established in 1971 by John and Marli Middleton, Mount Mary was one of the first vineyards planted in the resurgence of the Yarra Valley as a premium wine producing region. The inspiration behind the planting of vines in the Yarra Valley came from the Swiss settlers of the 1850’s. These worldly and hard working immigrants had been greatly influenced by the French wine producers and recognised the climatic parallels the Yarra Valley shared with Bordeaux and Burgundy.
