2011 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées

Single Bottle - Standard - 750ml

Tasting Notes:

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2011 has a very attractive, ebullient floral bouquet with dried rose petals and lavender infusing the crushed strawberry and raspberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a keen thread of acidity; taut and linear and yet with great intensity on the sophisticated, intellectual finish. The terroir shows really well here – a Volnay with plenty of panache and pedigree. You can approach this now, but it will improve. This is one of the best Volnays out there.

The Pousse d'Or domaine at Volnay was established in 1954. Its vineyards are anything but ordinary, consisting as they do mainly of premier and grand crus in the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay The domaine's 18 hectares yield 90,000 bottles annually and are managed in a spirit of respect for terroir. Le Domaine de la Pousse d'Or can be traced back to the Dukes of Burgundy and the year 1100. Since 1997, its new owner Patrick Landanger has invested considerable resources both in the vineyards themselves and in the arrangements for vinification and elevage. In pursuit of ever-higher quality, he is animated by profound respect for his terroirs and this guides his ambition to share his passion for the great wines of Burgundy with the world at large.
