Tasting Notes:

Offers fresh, juicy, snappy raspberry and wild berry flavors, shaded by spice and wilted rose. The delicate, minerally finish shows understated elegance. Drink now through 2021. 2,100 cases made.

Tasting Notes:

The 2012 Pinot Noirs display much less extraction, tannin and body than vintages from 10 or 12 years ago reveal. The 2012 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard, which comes primarily from the Calera clone, has oodles of strawberries and floral blueberries in a soft, round, medium-bodied style. Pure, pretty and elegant, this is a Pinot Noir to drink over the next 5-6 years. The Kistler wines were bottled in November/December of 2013 and have had a good nine to ten months to recover from the bottling period. They all performed impressively well, showing perfect acids, great purity and freshness, medium to full-bodied mouthfeels and long finishes. It seems as though there have been a few subtle changes, with perhaps slightly less new oak being used than in the past, and possibly earlier bottling, but these are very minor adjustments in Kistler's Chardonnay style, which is Burgundian, but captures the essence of the beautiful fruit that is available in the viticultural Shangri-La of the diverse microclimates of Sonoma.

description Producer information Professional reviews

Kistler Vineyards is a family-owned California winery located in Northern California's wine producing region of Sonoma County. According to Food and Wine Magazine, their "biannual release of Chardonnay is one of the most sought after by wine enthusiasts" and Food and Wine Magazine's Wine Guide considers their Chardonnays the "Best of the Best" among "Star Producers" Kistler was founded in 1978, and continues to be family owned and operated today. Kistler's winemaking is supervised by Steve Kistler, who studied creative writing at Stanford University. Kistler also oversees the vineyard work. Mark Bixler, who has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley runs the business and sales side of the winery as well as helping in the lab. In addition to Chardonnay, Kistler Vineyards also produces different bottlings of Pinot noir from different vineyards, like the nearby Occidental Station and Bodega Headlands and in prior vintages Terra de Promissio. Like the Chardonnay, the Pinot noir is modeled after the wines of the Burgundy region of France.
